FairNature Survey: Innovative financing for NbS

FairNature is a European research project exploring how nature-based solutions (NbS) can be scaled effectively and fairly, funded by Biodiversa+. We are looking for real-world examples of innovative ways of funding and financing NbS and biodiversity. Innovation does not have to mean a completely new financial instrument. It may involve adapting an existing instrument, creating a new market, bringing actors together in a new way (e.g. to share risk), recognising benefits that are usually overlooked by markets, or combining funding sources differently.

This short survey will help us:

  • identify interesting cases for further research;
  • understand why different actors participate in these arrangements; and
  • refine our understanding of what “financial innovation” for NbS looks like in practice.
